At Bronx Pediatric Dentist, our mission is to address the dental needs of anyone in our community. We offer a range of sedation options for your child ranging from nitrous oxide with oral conscious sedation to general anesthesia with a dentist anesthesiologist. We never turn away a patient based on their behavior or medical issues. Dental phobia is a specific issue that the dentists and staff take pride in helping your child overcome. Dr. Katchen is both a pediatric dentist and dentist anesthesiologist and an expert in discussing the most appropriate options for you and your child.
Laughing gas, sweet air, etc. is a wonderful adjunct to providing dentistry for children. For children and adults that have any trepidation about dental treatment, nitrous oxide can give the feeling of weightlessness and being ‘floaty.’ Children often giggle as they begin to become more calm. Once your child breaths in the laughing gas, the effects are felt within minutes and once the treatment is complete, 100% oxygen is given for 3-5 minutes in order to insure that your child leaves our office with the same smile they entered.
Oral Conscious Sedation:
For children who have a stronger sense of hesitation, we can provide oral conscious sedation for our patients. With patient safety always our number one priority, we strive for a dental appointment with as little discomfort and memory of treatment as possible. Your child will drink a liquid containing medicine that will help facilitate their dental treatment and bring them to a state where they are awake, yet calm and safe. As with any sedation, Dr. Katchen will always be by your child’s side from when the treatment begins until your child is awake enough to return home. Often, your child will have very little memory of the procedure.
Deep Sedation/General Anesthesia:
At Bronx Pediatric Dentist we strive to meet all of our patient’s needs. If your child’s dental needs are too extensive for a lighter sedation, we offer deep sedation/general anesthesia to provide a completely memory free, pain free dental experience. Your child will sleep through the entire procedure and have no memory of treatment. A dentist anesthesiologist will be with your child at all times, ensuring a safe environment for your child and a satisfying experience for you and your family.
